2023-03-24 18:02:23 +0000 UTC View Postis snatched the right word for this outfit? got a 70s perfectly worn Sears bellbottom workwear coverall in the shop and if the hem was longer I’d be wearing it all day every day and permanently incorporating the word “groovy” into my daily vernacular. I’m short (5, 3”) and 75% of that is my legs so this jumpsuit is headed back on the rack. Sorry I’ve been MIA - it’s been a hell of a few weeks (all good - just crazy busy). I still have a huge (huge!) box of pieces from clothing to playing cards to other neat pieces to model for y’all so next week I should have a chance to get back in the shop where my tripod is. Thanks for hanging in there 💋

2023-02-25 21:08:39 +0000 UTC View PostSOMEONE ACTUALLY SPENT MONEY TO HAVE THIS COSTUME MADE FOR THEM Mardi Gras in the 1970s was a wild time (if it adds anything to your visual on when this ghost costume was worn, it came from a French Quarter home of a guy who had an indoor pool instead of a living room so you can imagine the parties when he wasn’t working in the film industry. it’s also where the leather Tarzan loincloth costume came from) ps I threw in a few other photos of stuff I pulled out of the costume box to hold y’all over until after the holiday 💜💛💚 Happy Lundi Gras!
2023-02-21 03:11:01 +0000 UTC View Posthappy Valentine’s Day y’all 🌹 everyone kept coming into the shop to ask about this jacket so I took it home to try it on before it goes right back out the door wearing a rare, 1960s Minnesota Twins varsity souvenir jacket that found its way into the shop. it’s heavy wool with hand stitched lettering and was likely owned by someone who traveled with the team. The “TC” stands for Twin Cities, representing both Minneapolis and St. Paul (who up until that point had been in an ongoing baseball team rivalry). to my ex partner leaking my OF nudes, this one’s for you 🫶🏻

2023-01-27 21:40:10 +0000 UTC View Postnot back in the shop just yet but we came across these super rare “Frogskin camouflage pants” from WW2 and I couldn’t not them before I shipped them out (they sold in like 0.2 seconds) They’re made of Herringbone Twill (HBT) which is a cool textile. This specific pattern (frog skin) is reversible with a five-color jungle pattern on a green background on one side and a three-color beach pattern with a tan background on the other side. They were first issued in 1942 to Marine Raiders, and only used for about two years, mostly in the Pacific theater. They were briefly used in the European theater until more than a few accidental friendly fire occurred because of how similar the uniform looked to SS uniforms. Only about 150,000 were made so there aren’t many floating around nowadays. They’re high waisted, cropped to the ankle and have large thick pockets and it’s impractical for me to keep them but boy they are cool.

2022-10-09 20:07:20 +0000 UTC View Posthappy spooky szn y’all we were lucky to get some firsthand glimpses of the new remake of Interview with the Vampire: it was filmed outside the shop, and the set & costume teams came by, taking with them lots of our Victorian pieces and ephemera. the neighborhood was transformed nightly - entire facades were constructed over existing shops, the gas lamps were covered in black and green sheets (to hide them in post production) and the fog machines were set up on each corner while Model T cars were lined up. we’d also get these crazy notices every few days about coffins dropping from balconies and assuring us there’s “nothing to worry about.” it was pretty cool. in a serendipitous twist, we came into 1970s vampire capes and you bet I’m dressing up as a vampire a la “Dark Shadows.” (if you’re not familiar, it’s a really campy 70s tv show about vampires and other mythical creatures. Johnny Depp starred in a really fun movie remake a few years ago.) happy spooky szn 🧛🏻♀️♥️🎃
2022-10-02 19:44:19 +0000 UTC View PostThe temperature dropped below 90 degrees so of course I’m breaking out the sweaters as a way to will fall weather to come to New Orleans. This is a midcentury letter sweater from here in New Orleans. (I had to jack the AC up in the shop to wear this thing for just a few photos. it’s 100% wool and while it’s itchy boy does it keep you warm)
